Dear People,

1943.  For much of the world it was a time of war.

But you’ve heard me refer sometimes to the magnificent quality of Christian Science testimonies of healing during those years. People were rising, sacrificing—and finding unimagined spiritual strength.  They were utterly focused on what counted most in their own lives and for the world.

In many ways those Christian Scientists can remind us of what’s most needed right now, of where we need to be in thought, and the life-changing effects of Christian Science that are so natural to those who have “eyes to see and ears to hear.”

I think you’ll truly enjoy this year’s Association assignment.  It consist of two parts:

Read every testimony in the 1943 Sentinel (Parts 1 and 2 in the bound volumes, and found online at http://sentinel.christianscience.com/issues/1943).  Here, for example, you’ll meet entire families suddenly transformed and healed of physical illnesses when they sought out Christian Science, many healed of desperate financial difficulties, or being overwhelmed by the sense of peace and safety in spite of being caught in the midst of the terrors of war.

Consider what we today can learn from these Christian Scientists and their experiences.  Is the same kind of profoundly impressive healing to be found today?  Why can it be expected?  Describe the sense you have of the state of consciousness evident in these testifiers, after reading the 1943 testimonies.

Send your responses along whenever you can between now and our Association date—remember it’s a whole new time this year—on April 9, 2016.  None of this precludes the most important part of the assignment, which is as always bringing your own healing results to share with us all.

With deepest affection,
