“Mrs. Eddy assists, encourages, admonishes, awakes, rouses, reminds, instructs and guides human thought to the true creation.”

(1) As I have been pondering Mrs. Eddy’s chapter on Creation, the following came to thought: Creation is…
Selfhood unfolding endlessly;
Ongoing now-newness, no event to be treasured from afar;
“There” without the “t”;
Unceasing Life-activity of Spirit Mind knowing Itself;
Lost to time, without chronology, and found at every turn;
Constant proof-upon-proof of hope fulfilled;
Celebration of doubtless Being;
Innocence, freedom, authority.

(2) As I read the Creation chapter, I also thought…
In this chapter, Mrs. Eddy reaffirms the Scriptural basis of spiritual creation and then dismisses a few human theories on the topic. She points out that Creator, God, is not material or finite but limitless Mind that must have its infinite idea or expression. By the third page, most of her discussion turns to true and false conceptions of man.

This is appropriate considering that man is the “generic term for all that reflects God’s image and likeness.” (SH, p. 475)  Because Being comprises Creator and creation, it is fitting that her Creation chapter dwells on man, God’s creation.

In this chapter, Mrs. Eddy assists, encourages, admonishes, awakes, rouses, reminds, instructs and guides human thought to the true creation which is to say, God’s manifestation, which is to say, man.

(3) This recent focus on creation is opening my thought to the opportunity/demand/possibility of living and acting more in line with spiritual fact than material fable. Perhaps one small manifestation of the desire for more Soul with its beauty and balance in my experience is my taking up guitar three months ago. I enjoy its simple, stirring resonance. I wonder if this was part of what Saul was seeking when he listened to David play the harp?
