“It came to me to specifically address the suggestion of fear and embrace everyone in Her all-encompassing power and presence.”

A few days ago a beautiful demonstration unfolded.  I received a phone call from my daughter asking if I would pray for the 5-year-old granddaughter who had fainted in preschool and was shaking and very pale.  She was on her way to pick up the child.

Of course I immediately began declaring the truth about my granddaughter’s perfect spiritual identity that cannot be touched by anything that isn’t good.  Being created by her heavenly Mother-Father God her identity was and is always intact.  She has a divine heritage that is innocent, pure, unfallen, harmonious.  It came to me to specifically address the suggestion of fear and embrace everyone in Her all-encompassing power and presence – mom, granddaughter, the teachers, administration, the other students and her friends.

Mrs. Eddy’s poem, “Mother’s Evening Prayer” provided such a sure sense of calm and peace that indeed all is well.
          “O gentle presence, peace and joy and power;
          O Life divine, that owns each waiting hour,
          Thou Love that guards the nestling’s faltering flight!
          Keep Thou my child on upward wing…” (Hymn #209)

Oh, so apropos and timely!  I prayed line by line with this hymn as well as with the 91st Psalm that all are sheltered underneath His Almighty wing.

Within a few minutes I heard the sounds of an ambulance – we live in a small community – and I continued declaring the truth that “no evil shall befall thee, neither shall any plague come nigh thy dwelling.” (Ps. 91:10)  Divine Love’s angels were present right now to guard, guide, and govern.

Shortly I received a text from my daughter that the school administration had called for the ambulance, as they were greatly concerned. My daughter is a devoted student of Christian Science and agreed for her daughter to be taken to the hospital even though she initially just wanted to bring her home.  She told me later that there was a lovely sense of calm when she arrived at school – concern but not confusion or mayhem.  She too was embracing all in love and grace, and appreciative of the care and goodness being expressed.

I continued holding thought “steadfastly to the enduring, the good, and the true” as I went about my activities. (SH, p. 261)  An hour or so later my daughter let me know that after running a number of tests, the doctors couldn’t find anything wrong with the child nor any idea of what had caused her to be very weak and lose consciousness.  My granddaughter was her happy bouncy self that afternoon and has added two more stuffed animals to her collection – gifts from the EMS.

Needless to say, this was another wonderful proof of the efficacy and practicality of practicing the healing laws of Christian Science.  And yes, “illimitable Life and Love.”  Pondering and praying with this true and healing concept has been so helpful and inspiring.  Just thinking about the noun “illimitability” results in higher, more spiritual ways of approaching situations, thinking about activities, restoring relationships, eliminating fear and worry.  As soon as the references arrived I couldn’t wait to “dive in.”  And reading the chapter “Creation” straight through several times continues to bless and heal.
