"You can't overwhelm me with love"

The Thursday before Association my grandson and his mother (my daughter-in- law) were at a gas station when two men approached my grandson and asked if he had any “change.”  He told them “no,” and at this point one of the men pulled him out of his truck and put a gun to his forehead while the other man went around the truck toward his mom.

(When my grandson was telling me this, the morning after, he was still upset, his voice trembling and tearful.)

In his words, “when I saw that dude going toward my mom, I got courage and slapped the gun away from my face and hit this dude in the face as hard as I could. The other dude came back around and hit me with something solid at the back of my head and knocked me to the ground. He took my wallet. When he found I had $70 he said, ‘no change’.“

After more words exchanged, the men left, the police were called and a report filed.

I think this is remarkable. After all, I couldn’t very well attend Association if I was attending a funeral.

A little background on my grandson. He is 22. He dropped out of high school when he was 17. He helps his mom take care of her invalid grandmother and has made no real effort to get his GED or pursue steady employment. He does do odd jobs and work on cars.

I text him almost every day with a Bible verse or a statement from S&H.  I am trying not to “overwhelm” him.  He said, “You can’t overwhelm me with love.”
