“Learning another effective way to pray.”

A few weeks ago I experienced a very quick healing of an intense headache.  I had felt fine the whole day, but as I got ready for bed signs of a terrible migraine began to be felt.  My manager had gone home early from the office that morning with the same issue.  What followed was so new for me that it may be hard for me to explain how the healing occurred.  I got into bed to read the Bible Lesson on Soul from that week, only the pain was so intense that I could barely read.  It was early in the evening and I just had this sense of patience with the whole experience, and unintentionally, I tried something new.  My thought was basically, “I have nowhere to be, and am in no hurry to finish this reading so take your time.”

I read each sentence very slowly, and reasoned through it as if I was reading a science (lower case ‘s’) textbook, reasoning through each statement like a math problem. “If this, then that is true” was my thought process throughout each sentence.  Very quickly the pain receded and I fell into a restful sleep.  When I awoke in the morning, the healing was indeed complete!  I was sort of in amazement at how thorough and quick it was and know it had to do with the patience in my thought.

There was no self-condemnation, only a desire to draw close to God and try to understand Him.  I recognized that I should have put down the claim earlier in the day when my manager went home, but was able to recognize that as a learning point and move on to still have the healing.  It wasn’t there to punish me beyond me learning the lesson!  I am grateful for the experience of learning another effective way to pray.
