“…the Truth shown through Christian Science does heal”

I had been spending the week one summer with my two adult daughters doing a boat-building project. After a day of hours in the sun and with little to drink, there were symptoms of dehydration as I was unable to keep any food or liquid down. To be able to read and pray peacefully, I decided to sleep in our motel room rather than in the cottage with my daughters. When they were with me at the motel, they were alarmed by the symptoms.

They lovingly brought me Gatorade, a rehydrating drink, and crackers. Their fear was palpable and at their insistence I drank some of the Gatorade, hoping to bring them some calm. They were encouraging me to consider medical solutions, but throughout their time with me, I felt little or no fear. I just focused on the love they were expressing by taking time from their demanding schedules to spend a week with me. I also held to the idea that the truth shown through Christian Science does heal.

As soon as they left, I threw up the Gatorade. But I simply went outside into an area where my cellphone had reception and called a practitioner. She quickly and firmly put the situation into a spiritual perspective. She affirmed that matter doesn’t dictate and that I can only have what God has. And that’s all good and harmonious. She read part of hymn 330 which says,

“The King of Love my Shepherd is,
Whose goodness faileth never;
I nothing lack, for I am His
And He is mine forever.
Where streams of living waters flow
My ransomed soul he leadeth,
And where the verdant pastures grow,
With food celestial feedeth,”

I felt joy at how true and applicable those words were for me. After going inside, laughingly, I had the dry heaves. I called the practitioner again briefly. She gave more strong affirmation of God’s powerful goodness.

After reading and prayer, I slept well until awakened by my daughters at 5:30 a.m. They were checking to see if I was ok. Satisfied that I was going to make it, they left.

After about 3 hours more sleep, I got up and enjoyed breakfast. That day was spent in giving much gratitude to God and working to accept only the love-filled thoughts coming from Her. The remaining days went wonderfully and our boat was a grand success.

Thanks and praise be to God and to all who work and have worked to bring God’s true and perfect creation to light through Christian Science.
